Primarily correspondence (ca. 40 items) to and from members of and ephemera (ca. 30 items) related to the families of Lathrop Keith and Frances "Fannie" Chaffee (Mrs. Keith). Letters between Lathrop and Fannie (1854-1865) date from courtship through their married life. Lathrop's letters enumerate his life as a Union officer (very briefly); opinions on Christianity; and advice for Fannie on her comportment and conduct. Fannie's letters detail their children's activities, household chores, local gossip, and her opinions on Christianity. There are also materials from Lathrop's mother, Ann H. (Hayden) Keith, including letters to Lathrop and Fannie; a diary from 1855 (written when she was 60 years old); and copies of Christian poetry. Ann Keith's letters described the weather; sickness; the activities of her husband, Sidney; and local gossip. The diary conveyed her Christian convictions; her loneliness; her reading material; and described her household activities. Other letters are from Mother Chaffee to Fannie and Lathrop; from Sarah Louisa to Oscar Chaffee (brother and sister?); and from [Simeon] Keith to Ann Keith. Included in the ephemera are two rewards of merit to Sidney Keith (ca. 1820) from his schoolmistress; copies of poetry (n.d., some possibly compiled by Charles Hayden for "posterity"); a marriage certificate for Elwyn F. Pond and Annie F. Keith (1883); a deed for transfer of land from Simeon Keith to his son, Sidney (1805); and a receipt for a burial plot (1901) bought by Lathrop Keith.
